Becoming a volunteer may make you feel that your work is undervalued, that you’re wasting your time, or even you can feel operational risks. This and other difficulties may come with volunteering. Is taking risks a bad thing? In words of Frederick Douglass: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress”.
IYC’s objective is not only to help the beneficiaries of the food distribution or the attendees in our projects, this would be a tunnel vision of all our activities within the Finnish society, one of our targets goes beyond changing a city or a country, our goal is not to transform a society but to change our volunteers thought simple acts, so we can change humankind’. Because we believe in what J.R.R Tolkien said in The Hobbit: “I have found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love.”
Volunteers dedicate themselves, as far as possible, to volunteering activities, giving their time, dedication, impact and expertise to support causes they believe in. Through acts of service that transform individuals, to participating in different activities that provides valuable lessons, or even stepping out of the “bubble” that makes you aware of society’s true realities. This is why, through volunteering, we have the opportunity to grow as individuals and cultivate good values.
Along this journey, volunteers face numerous challenges, but these can be overcome step by step. Our purpose is to understand the needs of the people and the society thought the eyes of the volunteers, making the world a more magical place to live only by one simple motto: “LIVING FOR OTHERS.”
